Mal de Débarquement Syndrome

Living with Mal de Débarquement Syndrome (MdDS) can be confusing, frustrating, and isolating. You may have been told your symptoms are due to anxiety, felt misunderstood, or struggled to find answers while living with persistent sensations of rocking, swaying, or bobbing. At South Valley Physical Therapy, we have been treating individuals with MdDS for decades, continually refining our treatment approach based on clinical experience and emerging research. Our team was awarded funding from the Mal de Débarquement Syndrome Foundation to study physical therapy interventions for treatment of MdDS. This work resulted in the publication of "A Sensory Adaptation Program for Individuals With Mal de Débarquement Syndrome: A Case Series," published in June2026 in the journal of Neurologic Physical Therapy.

Building onthe findings of this research and our decades of clinical experience, we developed an intensive 3-week physical therapy program that utilizes a research-based sensory adaptation intervention. Each treatment program is individualized, with the frequency and type of therapy tailored to your specific symptoms and needs. Our goal is to reduce persistent motion sensations, improve balance and function, and help you return to the activities that matter most to you. We know that every person's experience with MdDS is unique. That's why we partner with you throughout your recovery, providing personalized care, education, and support to help you regain confidence, restore function, and improve your quality of life.
